24 - 31 January 2027
When cars are suddenly replaced by horse drawn carriages and people stroll through the streets in long ruffled skirts, muffs and top hats, it is time for Belle Époque Week in Kandersteg. In the wintery village, a glamorous era comes back to life. Highlights include the opening Sunday with a promenade through the village, nostalgic train rides and an exhibition with engaging talks on the history of the Belle Époque. The programme also features ice skating, a refined afternoon tea and the festive Belle Époque Ball in Art Nouveau style. Sporting spirit comes into play at the historic ski cup at Lake Oeschinen, where participants ski on wooden skis using equipment from days gone by. Many guests dress in Belle Époque style, while visitors in everyday clothing are just as welcome. Anyone wishing to take part in historical costume can hire suitable outfits at the Haus der Museen Kandersteg and become part of this special journey through time.
