Lake Thun

On more than 47 km² and surrounded by castles, picturesque villages and imposing mountains, the “Riveria of Lake Thun” welcomes its guests.

From a bird’s eye view, Lake Thun looks like a gleaming treasure of emeralds and sapphires. In summer, visitors enjoy the fresh air on sailing boats or the nostalgic paddle steamers. Daily cruises are also offered throughout winter and provide passengers with a chance to admire the lake in its cool but still charming appearance. The many bicycle and hiking trails around the lake, past enchanting vineyards and picturesque chalets, allow visitors to discover the lake from the shore. Five castles and numerous museums provide cultural entertainment.

Time for adventure: The four “Ws” of watersports

If you take to water sports like a duck to water, then Lake Thun is the perfect destination for you. Keep your balance while you whizz around on waterskis. Try acrobatic tricks while you are wakeboarding or wakeskating. And when the wind is fair you can hoist your sail and elegantly cruise the lake on your windsurfing board.

At the Lake Thun Festival even the backdrop plays a starring role

Every year up to 70,000 people travel to Lake Thun to take their seat in front of a very special stage. In the past, the Lake Thun Festival was host to musicals such as Cats, Evita and West Side Story, which were performed in front of the spectacular backdrop provided by the lake, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. It doesn’t come as a surprise that the Lake Thun Festival enjoys the reputation of Europe’s most beautiful lake stage.
