High above Adelboden lies the Engstligenalp, Switzerland’s largest plateau. The landscape is mystical, especially in the autumn. For some it’s the perfect hiking area, with refreshment stops and overnight accommodation at the Berghotel; for others, it’s simply a place packed with natural energy. Besides that magical alpine feeling up on the high plateau, it’s the churning waters of the two cascades of the Engstligen Falls that have visitors spellbound. Here these waters plunge down more than 600 metres. You can take in these mountain waterfalls at close quarters on two circular hikes. The circular waterfall trail to the upper Engstligen Falls begins at the Engstligenalp mountain station while the trail to the lower Engstligen Falls starts at the valley station.
Anyone who travels to Adelboden is likely to hear about Vogellisi, the mythical herb woman. As a local figure, she’s ubiquitous on Adelboden’s adventure mountain VogellisiBerg. A family-friendly theme trail between Sillerenbühl and Bergläger is dedicated to the story of Vogellisi and her adventures, inviting big and small to immerse themselves in her world. If you prefer to pick up the pace, you can also explore the area by scooter. Seven varied routes covering a total of 45 kilometres are waiting to be discovered – and all offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
