Biel/Bienne – the gateway to the Jura – is a multi-faceted city which is a little bit Swiss, a little bit French, modern and traditional alike. Both German and French are equally spoken here. In contrast to the modern architecture at the shore of Lake Biel lies, on a gentle hill, the intact Old Town with its gothic church that dates back to the 15th century.

Biel/Bienne offers its visitors a varied programme of events and excursions: the Taubenloch Gorge, which leads from Bözingen to Frinvillier, the Three-Lakes cruise, the Lake Biel Festival with its famous firework display that attracts 100,000 visitors ever year, the truffle market, the international chess festival, the Royal Arena Festival as well as traditional wine festivals. Talking about wine, Biel/Bienne and its surroundings are home to numerous winegrowers and winemakers.
