Jungfrau Marathon

5 & 6 September 2025

42.195 kilometres and 1,953 metres in altitude – the participants in the Jungfrau Marathon tackle this impressive route, accompanied by the breathtaking panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

The beauty of this marathon is only equalled by its popularity and excellent reputation. To protect the environment, the number of starting places is limited – and they are regularly sold out.

The start in Interlaken is easily accessible by direct train. From there, the route leads through varied landscapes: along Lake Brienz, through traditional mountain villages and past an imposing mountain backdrop – all the way to the finish on the Eiger Glacier.

The notorious "wall" to Lauterbrunnen poses a particular challenge – a steep climb in which participants have to overcome 500 metres in altitude.

Music as support

The setting of the Jungfrau Marathon makes its uniqueness tangible: along the route, participants are accompanied by flag-wavers, alphorn players and trichlers – a feast for the eyes and ears. All of this takes place amidst rustic mountain villages, against the majestic backdrop of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

The crowning finale awaits on the last 400 metres: the ascent to the Eiger Glacier once again demands everything from the participants. Accompanied by the sound of Scottish bagpipes, they finally reach the finish line – a traditional highlight that brings the run to a dignified close.
