Tramelan

Culture, nature, and sport: Tramelan, the clock village close to Biel/Bienne, draws visitors with all the attractions that make a trip out a thorough success.

A watchmaking village with a rich heritage

Tramelan in the Grand Chasseral region is characterised by its unique character as a watchmaking village. The local history is deeply intertwined with the growth of the watchmaking industry, with homes and workshops that are still visible today. At the beginning of the 20th century, factories such as Record Watch and Unitas employed several hundred people. The famous farmer-watchmakers, who worked in the fields in summer and at their workbenches in winter, could be found there. This industrial heritage has shaped the identity of the village, and is also present in the stained glass windows of the Temple or in the Saint-Michel church.

A gateway to the Franches-Montagnes

Tramelan is one of the access points to the open and wooded landscapes of the Franches-Montagnes. From this plateau at an altitude of 1,000 metres, nature lovers can explore vast pastures, encounter free-range horses and reach the Étang de la Gruère in the middle of a peat bog designated as a nature reserve. The region is home to tranquil nature that is ideal for a walk at any time of year.
